Writing / AP style samples

Wild winds wreak havoc – As former News Editor and staff writer of the Tan & Cardinal student newspaper, I have had much experience and practice with clear, concise writing, editing and AP style. This particular article was breaking news at the time and my first big story. (Note: the style of our school’s media Web site hinders the readability of the article …the actual article is written in multiple, short paragraphs).

Publication Design pieces

Billing’s Food Bank Newsletter – This particular piece was an important project for me, in that the class this newsletter was designed for sparked my interest in journalism and led me to choosing a second major in the subject. This project was my first experience with the four basic design principles and shows my news design style: simple and easy to follow.

Promotional/Creative Materials

Creative Materials for OC DEBUNKIFY’s ‘Just Be You’ Campaign
Handouts for OC DEBUNKIFY’s ‘Just Be You’ Campaign – As creative manager of the DEBUNKIFY campaign, I worked with our account executive to design the slogan, logo and general information that was displayed on all campaign materials. Based on the concept of tobacco modeling, the campaign encouraged students to make informed tobacco decisions without letting others influence them, summarized by our slogan ‘Just Be You.’

Communication Plans

Communication Plan for OC DEBUNKIFY’s ‘Just Be You’ Campaign – I participated in the DEBUNKIFY campaign during my sophomore year, before truly learning public relations techniques in my classes. Our six-person team co-wrote this plan and implemented the campaign from January – May 2008. We were awarded ‘Best Research’ from Northlich Public Relations and the Ohio Tobacco Prevention Foundation.
